Our Story

The Urban Party Project started in Plymouth in 2020 with one simple idea: to create a live band that we would genuinely want to go and watch ourselves.

Today, we’re a 9-piece band featuring male and female lead vocals, a full three-piece horn section and a group of experienced musicians who have spent years developing a live show that’s a little different from the usual wedding and function band.

A huge part of what we do is our medleys. We professionally arrange songs together to create seamless sections of the show where one huge track flows straight into the next, keeping the energy up and the dance floor moving. These aren’t generic medleys bought off the shelf. They’re created specifically for our line-up, making full use of our vocalists, horns and musicians to give the show its own sound.

Our setlist follows the same philosophy. We don't simply work through the usual collection of songs you hear at every wedding. Instead, we choose tracks that we love, that work brilliantly with a 9-piece band and, most importantly, that we know will create a great atmosphere.

That means you can expect music from artists including Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie and Michael Jackson through to Destiny’s Child, Beyoncé, Dua Lipa and RAYE, alongside unexpected tracks and combinations you might not expect to hear from a live band.

We’re constantly updating the set, writing new arrangements and building new medleys, so the show continues to evolve with us.

The result is a live band experience that feels less like a traditional set and much more like a show built around your celebration.
